Designing with Soul: Why I Believe in Personalized and Authentic Interiors
As an interior designer, I’ve come to realize that the most powerful spaces aren’t the ones that simply follow trends or showcase perfection—they’re the ones that feel deeply personal and genuinely lived in. In 2025, more than ever, I find myself leaning into this idea: creating interiors that reflect not just a style, but a soul.
It's Not Just Design—It's a Story
When I walk into a client’s home or office, I’m not just seeing walls, flooring, and furniture—I’m looking for clues. Clues about who they are, what they love, how they live. Because for me, interior design isn’t about making a space look like a magazine spread—it’s about telling a story that’s uniquely theirs.
There’s something incredibly grounding about blending the old with the new, the polished with the imperfect, the curated with the collected. It’s these contrasts that bring out the richness of a space—and reflect the layered complexity of the people who inhabit it.
Personalization is More Than a Trend—It’s a Mindset
Sure, trends come and go—but when a space truly feels like you, it never goes out of style. I’ve always believed that the most beautiful rooms are the ones that spark emotion. Maybe it’s the color that reminds you of your grandmother’s home. Maybe it’s a light fixture you picked up while traveling. Maybe it’s the corner by the window where you always drink your morning chai.
These details matter. They make a house a home. A workspace, a sanctuary. They carry memory, meaning, and identity. And I feel privileged every time a client lets me in to uncover those layers with them.
How I Bring This to Life in My Work
- I start by listening—really listening. I want to understand your routines, your quirks, your comfort zones.
- I encourage clients to bring something personal into the design—an heirloom, a handmade piece, a favorite scent.
- I blend materials and textures that feel organic, lived-in, and warm—because real life isn’t sterile, and neither should our spaces be.
- I work closely with artisans whenever possible. There’s a kind of soul in handcrafted work that machines can’t replicate.
Design That Feels Like Home
I always say: your space should breathe with you. It should reflect not only who you are today but hold space for who you're becoming.
As designers, we have the ability to shape more than just walls—we help shape experiences, emotions, and memories. And that’s something I don’t take lightly.
So here’s to interiors that aren’t afraid to be a little imperfect. A little messy. A little you.
Because that’s where the real beauty lives.
